• Java was originally developed by JAMES GOSLING at Sun Microsystem (which has since been acquired by Oracle Corporation) and released in 1995.

• "Oak" was previous name of Java.

• In 1995, Oak was renamed as "Java" because it was already a trademark by Oak Technologies.

• Java was one of the top choices along Silk, dynamic, revolutionary, jolt, DNA etc.

• Java is an island of Indonesia where Java coffee was produced. So the logo of Java represents symbol of coffee.

• Java is a High Level Language which means it is Human Readable i.e. in English letters.

• Java is Platform Independent - "compile once and run anywhere" with the use of JVM(Java Virtual Machine).

• It is pure Object Oriented Programming language, if we want to write a line in java then also we have to make a class.

• Java practically runs on 3 billion plus smartphones today because Google's Android operating system uses Java APIs.

• But now the Official language of Google is Kotline which is derived from Java.

• In IT world Java is widely used, around 70-80% companies work with Java.
